That’s a really good question (and apologies for the delayed reply)!
I initially started off at Austereo as a web designer of sorts and subsequently got trained up internally (editorial, audio/photo/video production etc) when the company began to broaden its web content offering so I don’t think I have much to offer by way of an outsider.
However, most of my colleagues in the Austereo Interactive team come from an online media/journalism background, having worked for a variety of media outlets and agencies, big and small.
It also doesn’t hurt dropping a line and checking if the places that interest you offer work experience, internships etc. They also recruit every now and again. Have a poke around some of your favourite websites and find out if they’re looking for content contributors too. They’ll all make great notches on your belt, so to speak.
I studied marketing and advertising at university but if I had another crack I probably would have done a communications degree or something like that. But hey, things happen for a reason.
Hopefully I’ve made some sense here! I truly wish you all the best of luck with whatever you choose to pursue, Anonymous.
