Tony Abbott: Run Abbott, Run, Run, Run.

One of the many key learnings I’ve picked up in my years working in radio is the ability to “seize the moment”. And in saying that, radio has proven to be able to quickly convert events into compelling content.

The internet does a great job of it too.

I was a little late to the party when news about Opposition Leader Tony Abbott making attempt to flee the House of Representatives during a vote broke earlier today. It was the subject of chatter across social media channels the entire day; it was satire waiting to happen (you could say that Australian political debate/discourse is a joke these days too).

In about 30 minutes this afternoon I was able to source footage of the incident and audio of Run Rabbit Run and created a mash up - Run Abbott, Run, Run, Run.

I was the lead digital producer for 2DayFM’s $100,000 Fugitive campaign - managing all online elements including social media strategy and execution, GPS and Google Maps, character blogs, video, photo and editorial content, and client messaging and integration with Vodafone and Channel Seven.

I shot Rihanna’s interview on the Hamish and Andy Show during her visit to Australia for the premiere of Battleship.

Rihanna is confronted with very compelling evidence that she may have used a snippet from a previous encounter with Hamish and Andy in her song Man Down, namely the “rum pa pa pum”. Her reaction is priceless.

The clip has also gone viral, too.

Sure, their style and style of music wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea (including mine) but I’d have to say that over the many times I’ve encountered Shaun, Bradie and Andy in and out of a professional capacity, they’ve been fantastic. Good guys. Sorry to hear that you’ve called it quits.

I’ll always remember Short Stack fondly because the above photo (taken by me at The Metro in Sydney in 2009) ended up in the December 2010 issue of Rolling Stone Australia; my first.

Revenge on Jackie O.

As part of an ongoing story arc on 2DayFM, Kyle and Jackie O’s show producers got their own back. After being snatched from her house, Jackie O suddenly finds herself in the middle of Parramatta Stadium having to sing Advance Australia Fair in front of an NRL Friday night football crowd.

I produced, shot and edited the video.
